A lot of businesses and production companies are trying to get new clients. Some of them are almost desperate. Look at all of the bonuses and extra deals that they throw in just to get you to "try out" their new product. In some cases, you may be so tempted by the extra features that you might forget about the base package. That's a big mistake, particularly if the base package comes with a subscription or something like that.
Before you decide to go with the whole program just because you like the features or the bonus items, make sure that you ask yourself these key questions.
What Does This Really Cost?
The biggest risk when you buy something because of the bonus items is that you won't get your money's worth. It's not at all uncommon for these sorts of businesses to use exceptionally good bonus features to get people to sign up for subscriptions. They know full well that once people sign up, they're not likely to remember it in time to sign off. This means that they can get a couple months of payment out of them. So be brutal in your analysis of what the HR software package subscription costs, not just what the ticket price is or the ticket price combined with all of the value of those bonus features.
Does This Add to Your Responsibilities or Financial Load?
Subscriptions, even to a fantastic HR software package, obviously add to your financial load. In some cases, they may add to your responsibilities as well. You need to evaluate the base package to see whether it is worth it in the long run. How much time are you going to have to spend learning how to do this and what is it likely to do to help you. It isn't enough to look at the advertisements. Consider what you are likely to use it for. It's like investing in brand new running shoes when you know deep in your heart that you're never going to lace those shoes up so long as you have a choice in the matter.
Can You Get Those Bonus Features Somewhere Else?
Sure the bonus features and special products that come with the HR software package are definitely tempting. You aren't all that impressed by the software itself because you know how to do most of it, and you promise yourself that you'll get that subscription turned off. But it's more important that you see if you can find those same products that you want elsewhere. That way you get what you want. Otherwise, you'll need to evaluate whether the bonuses themselves are really worth all that extra.
