Working in an NHS hospital or other institute as a Cardiac physiologist is challenging. Cardiac physiologist jobs require diagnosis and treatment of people with heart disease. They could be children or adults. You need to report on stress tests (ETT), electrocardiogram (ECG), blood pressure monitors, tilt-table tests and echocardiograms. Alternatively, you could also be working in labs either assisting in cardiac catheterization; angiography, stenting, or angioplasty. You could also be involved in ICD implantation or would need to work as a perfusionist in the operating theatre. Due to the nature of their job, it would be correct to state that cardiac physiologists are the 'tools' needed by surgeons for diagnosing and treating heart diseases.

Cardiac physiologists need a qualification and training to perform their job. Cardiac physiologists usually receive a degree after four years of study which includes both theoretical and practical components. It also involves many internships and logbooks. Since the job requires working under immense pressure, it would be good for the career, if your training includes working as a volunteer emergency technician.

Cardiac physiologists require other skills as well which includes good verbal and interpersonal skills. You need to be self-motivated and up-to-date with the latest guidelines. Having good IT skills is an additional advantage since the job requires working on different computers and software.

The good thing about cardiac physiologists' jobs is that it poses a constant challenge with each patient being different. In the end, you get to learn new skills. The use of technology also makes it more precise and accurate. Also, the feeling is great when you see that the patients are improving on the follow-up appointments. It is motivating to see a patient much better and smiling when earlier he had been weak and fragile suffering from a heart problem.

So the mornings for cardiac physiologists start with arriving in the cardiology department in their local hospitals. They employ high tech equipment for assessing patients with heart problems. The first thing that they have to do on arrival is to use an ultrasound scanner for assessing an elderly patient who is suspected of suffering from a heart disease. The patients are always nervous about being tested. So the cardiac physiologist then has a nice chat with the patient to put him at ease. This is extremely important as the patient is always looking at them for support and guidance. Impressions of confusion, anger, sadness or seriousness would definitely hurt the patient. After examination, the cardiac physiologist then analyses the findings on a computer. He or she writes a report for the doctor who would be treating the patient. All day long, the cardiac physiologist carries out various investigations. Offering expert advice to the doctors is also another important aspect of his job. Cardiac physiologists' jobs thus turn out to be a very exciting career. The job is promising and satisfying. They have the advantage of being part of a life saving health care team that meets new people each day.
